Intel slams NVIDIA & AMD for having a large number of security issues

Intel has released its 2024 Product Security report. In its sixth annual Product Security report, Intel slams NVIDIA and AMD for having huge amounts of security flaws in their products. Intel’s latest report discusses various security challenges with NVIDIA and AMD chips and also mentions why Intel has a “competitive edge” in security assurance.

Intel slams NVIDIA and AMD in its 2024 Product Security report for having major security flaws

In its latest Product Security report, Intel has claimed that AMD has over four times higher firmware vulnerabilities while NVIDIA has 80 percent more GPU security problems. The PC and laptop chip maker claimed that AMD had 4.4 times more firmware issues in its hardware root-of-trust and 1.8 times higher firmware flaws in its confidential computing technologies compared to Intel.

Furthermore, the report added that AMD discovered only around half (57 percent) of all the reported vulnerabilities in its platform. AMD has six vulnerabilities that impact a total of 78 of its different SKUs. These vulnerabilities are impacting AMD’s Secure Processor engine. Currently, they fall under the “No fix planned” category, meaning the company does not have a solution for these.

NVIDIA has 18 high-severity vulnerabilities in its platforms

Intel has criticized NVIDIA in the GPU category, claiming it “had only high-severity (18) vulnerabilities for 2024”. Out of the 18 security flaws, 13 of the issues in NVIDIA GPUs are remote code execution problems. At the same time, Intel claims its GPUs only had 10 security issues reported, and only one of them was a high-severity flaw. Intel says that it prioritizes security within its CPUs and GPUs.

It’s worth mentioning that you should always take reports like this with a grain of salt since they usually present one-sided information. Especially since Intel is competing with rivals like AMD and NVIDIA in different fields. Intel is dominating the CPU market, while NVIDIA and AMD rule the GPU segment. Intel recently released its Gaudi 3 platform, which could help it compete better against the NVIDIA GPUs.
