Semi-trailers are loaded onto railroad platforms at the Mostyska terminal
The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has developed two alternative routes for the delivery of products by rail to minimize the risks of a possible blockade of the Ukrainian-Polish border. This was announced by Yevhen Anikin, Head of Logistics and Customs Control, in an interview with CFTS.
The first route involves loading products onto trucks in Dnipro, which go to the city of Mostyska on the border with Poland. There, the cargo is loaded onto railroad platforms and delivered as part of a container train to the city of Forst in Germany. In Forst, the products are loaded onto new tractors for delivery to end customers. If the destination is in another country, the products are discharged from the train at the relevant railway station.
The second route option involves the transportation of products by rail to the Polish city of Chełm. Gondola cars are loaded at Ukrainian plants in Dnipro or Nikopol and then delivered to Chełm. There, the products are unloaded and sorted by customers, after which they are transported by trucks to their final destinations.
“It is for the second option (shipment in gondola cars) that we are conducting experiments to develop packaging that can withstand precipitation and preserve the quality of the pipes,” Anikin added.
The trucks are being loaded onto railway platforms for the first route by Mostyska Container Terminal. The terminal in Germany, which serves container trains, is located in Forst and is owned by Lion Group. The Mostyska terminal is equipped with specialized platforms and systems that allow loading any kind of semi-trailer, and transshipment is carried out using reefer trucks with combi-spreaders. It is the only terminal in Ukraine that operates container trains on a regular basis.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Interpipe is implementing modern logistics solutions, focusing on cost reduction and expanding its supply geography. In cooperation with its partners, the company has set up a hub in the Georgian port of Batumi for transshipment of pipe products. From here, the goods are delivered to customers in the Caucasus and Central Asia by rail and road. The company also plans to lease another vessel to operate in the Black Sea.
