iPhone 17 Air could be even thinner than reports suggested

Apple could be planning to launch as many as five new iPhone models this year. The expected models include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the fourth-gen iPhone SE variant. Notably, it will be the first time the Cupertino tech giant’s iPhone lineup will include an Air model. Furthermore, the reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Air could be the slimmest iPhone to date. Recently, the details regarding the thickness of the phone leaked. However, a new report suggests that the iPhone 17 Air could be even thinner than suggested by the earlier leak.

Analysts expect Apple to create the thinnest smartphone to date with the iPhone 17 Air

A report by market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the iPhone 17 Air could be even thinner than what the earlier leaks have indicated. The analyst claims that the phone’s thinnest part will be around just 5.5mm. Notably, a recent leak from China suggested that Apple is targeting a thickness of 6.25mm. However, the news suggests otherwise. If the new report is true, the iPhone 17 Air will be 2.3mm slimmer than the iPhone 16, which measures 7.8mm around the waist.

Notably, if Apple manages to achieve a slimness of 5.5mm then it will honestly be quite impressive. In contrast, Apple’s chief rival, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 flagship[ doesn’t even come close as it is 7.8mm thick. The brand’s stylus-toting Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, measures 8.6mm around the waist.

Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will only support an eSIM

Furthermore, Kuo suggests that the iPhone 17 Air will only support an eSIM. This is due to the ultra-thin design of the phone. Notably, the analyst suggests that the ultra-thin iPhone 17 model may ship in higher volumes than the Plus variant. However, it will not significant;y boost iPhone sales overall. This is due to “downgraded components paired with a high price and a user experience similar to current models”.

We can expect the rumor mill to reveal more details about the slim iPhone in the coming months, so stay tuned for regular updates.
