Jaguar’s I-Pace, once a trailblazing electric vehicle and the 2019 World Car of the Year, is now piling up in scrapyards due to persistent reliability issues and recalls.

A Threads user, Ev_Newt, recently posted photos of dozens of I-Pace EVs stacked at a U.K. scrapyard with the caption: “These Jaguar I-Paces at my local scrap yard, Charles Trent—recalled, refunded and now to be recycled.”
Launched ahead of its European competitors, the I-Pace was Jaguar’s first premium electric SUV and received praise for its design and innovation.
But it struggled to sell, and recurring battery failures led to at least five recalls in various markets, according to Carscoops.
Reports of fires and reliability concerns further tarnished its reputation, prompting Jaguar to launch global buyback programs last year.
Following a controversial PR campaign about its rebirth, Jaguar unveiled the Type 00 Concept in December 2024.
The four-door electric sedan, set for production this year, is part of the brand’s new EV strategy and targets an EPA-estimated range of 430 miles (692 km).
