WILLIAMSTOWN, W.Va. (WTAP) – Mrs. Tammy Cline has been teaching at Wood County Christian for 9 years. She teaches middle school history, drama, life skills, and she is the secondary principal. To receive this award she was humbled and very surprised. She shares her favorite part about being a teacher.
“Love interacting with the children I love making education fun. I try to bring it to life and do fun things so that school is a fun place to be and a safe place to be.”
Her students love happy dance Friday’s! What is it? Well, she explains!
“As a Christian School, we try to incorporate Christian music and different things, and so I would put music on as the students came into my class and K love a Christian music station, does what they call Happy Dance Friday. And one of my students said, could we do this? That and I said absolutely. So every Friday, I play happy dance by MercyMe when they come in, we dance with the song. And sometimes we’ll play the video and go for round and then we have a chance and I have the students share praises from the week just to remind them that we need to focus on the good things that’s done for us and the praises that we have life.”
To understand how much of an impact Mrs. Cline has made on her students is humbling.
“It means everything it just feels like. I know I feel like this is my calling, but that kind of just reinforces that this is what I need to be doing at this time.”
Her advice to incoming teachers is to just love your kids.
“First and foremost, you’ve got to love children and you really need to be called to to care about them and to see them as individuals, not just as a group and to spend. And know that you’re impacting their lives and loving them, and that’s once you do that, everything else falls into place. I think one of the quotes that I hear is that I don’t teach history. I don’t teach subjects, but we teach children. And we just need to remember that.”
