Apple released the company’s rankings for the most popular podcasts of 2024 showing that Joe Rogan was beaten out for the top spot by The Daily from The New York Times and Crime Junkie, a true crime podcast.

Apple published the podcast charts, localized for listeners in approximately 100 countries and regions across the globe, the week before Thanksgiving week. The list was broken into multiple categories, including the top new shows, the most followed shows, and the most shared episodes.

At the top is The Daily, a daily news podcast produced by the New York Times and hosted by reporters Michael Barbaro and Sabrina Tavernise. In second was true-crime podcast Crime Junkie out of Indianapolis, hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat. In third place was The Joe Rogan Experience, which is frequently cited as one of, if not the most influential podcast in the world.

True crime, Politics, and long-form interviews dominated the list. Naturally, however, the data released by Apple only includes those listening on Apple Podcasts app and not other platforms such as YouTube or Spotify.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also was number one for top new shows with The Tucker Carlson Show.

Although Rogan did not snag the top global podcast spot, his October interview with now President-elect Donald Trump came in second for the top episodes in the U.S. while YouTube the episode has over 50 million views. The Trump interview also rank number five as the most shared episode in the country.

Media pundits and political strategists have pointed towards Rogan’s rightward shift towards supporting Trump in the last election cycle as one of the key factors for Trump’s victory.
