Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosts meeting in Barren County to discuss new road project – wnky.com

GLASGOW, Ky. – Residents of Barren County, there’s a new road project in the works you should be aware of.

At Barren County Middle School, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosted a meeting to discuss changes coming to the Trojan Trail intersection of Kentucky 249, or Roseville Road.

These include building a wider bridge over South Fork Beaver Creek and putting a roundabout in at the intersection.

Officials say roundabouts are a lot safer for younger drivers that may be going to Barren County High School, and they prevent crashes more often than standard intersections.

We spoke to Wes Watt, who tells us that traffic flow is going to be one of the major improvements he expects with this new change, and those attending the meeting are feeling good about this project as well.

“People were really open to roundabouts… and really a lot of them thought it was a really good idea… and certainly most people seem to be really open to it… even if they weren’t positive, they seem to be open to it… and that’s been the case. Roundabouts are growing. They’re all over the state now. They’re all over the country because we know they work,” he says.

Watt also says this is a federal project, so the state does not have to pay for any of the costs.

This nearly $4.7 million project is set to begin construction in the next few years.
