Leighton Meester Boards Apple’s ‘Buccaneers’ for Season 2 – Hollywood Reporter

Apple TV+‘s series The Buccaneers is taking on a new crewmember.

Leighton Meester is joining the period drama for its forthcoming second season. Details on the character the former Gossip Girl and Single Parents star will play are being kept quiet for now.

Meester will become part of a cast that also includes Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Christina Hendricks, Mia Threapleton, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan and Barney Fishwick.

The Buccaneers is based on an unfinished novel by Edith Wharton and follows a group of American girls who burst onto the London social scene in the 1870s, setting off an Anglo-American culture clash. In season two, the group has settled in London and taken their places in society: Nan (Froseth) is now a duchess, Conchita (Boe) has also married into nobility and Jinny (Waterhouse) is a celebrity — albeit one wanted for kidnapping her unborn child.

The Forge Entertainment, a Banijay UK company, produces The Buccaneers. Series creator and writer Katherine Jakeways executive produces with Beth Willis and Susanna White. Directors for season two are William McGregor (Lockwood & Co.), Rachel Leiterman (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), John Hardwick (One Day) and Charlie Manton (Everything Now).

Meester will next be seen in the CW and Roku Channel series Good Cop/Bad Cop. Her recent credits also include feature films EXMas and River Wild and a recurring role on Hulu’s How I Met Your Father. She is repped by UTA and The Lede Company.
