Before CES kicks off next week, LG is announcing a few of its products like this UltraGear GX9 OLED gaming monitors. The company typically does this ahead of CES because they have so many announcements, and they want to beat the competition.
Within the UltraGear GX9 OLED monitor lineup, there are two unique monitors. One is a 45-inch display with a bendable panel, while the other is a 39-inch “smart” gaming monitor that has webOS built-in.
The 45-inch UltraGear GX9 OLED is the world’s first bendable 5K OLED gaming monitor, it has a resolution to 5,120×2,160, which is essentially 5K2K. This higher resolution is also new for gaming monitors, as they typically focus on faster refresh rates versus more pixels. Typically a 5K2K monitor like this would be reserved for creatives, instead of gamers.
With this being a bendable monitor, it means that you can transform it from a flat screen to an aggressive 900R curve in just a few seconds. This monitor also sports an updated version of LG’s Dual-Mode functionality, which first debuted last year. Which allows you to switch between the two resolution/refresh rate combinations to best match the game you’re playing.
For those who don’t care for a bendable monitor, LG will also sell this same monitor in a non-bendable version.
LG’s 39-inch “smart” gaming monitor can function without a PC
These “smart” monitors aren’t really new, Samsung has been doing this for a few years. Though this is the first time we’ve seen it for a “gaming” monitor. Inside, LG has webOS running the show, which is the same OS as what is used on its TVs. This also means it can work without a PC connected to it. So you can watch Netflix, Hulu, and more on this monitor.
This is a 39-inch display, with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 800R curve. This is an OLED monitor and also comes with LG’s unique L-shaped monitor stand.
We will learn more about these monitors, and other LG products at CES next week, when we get to see them in person.
