The 2024 LA Auto Show was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from November 22 to December 1, 2024. This show is one of the four major motor shows in the U.S. (the others being Detroit, Chicago, and New York), and many manufacturers exhibited their products. In addition to American brands such as Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Jeep, RAM, Dodge, and Tesla, most brands except for German luxury brands participated, including South Korea’s Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis; Japan’s Toyota, Honda, Acura, Nissan, and Subaru; and Europe’s VW, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat, making it a great opportunity to check out the recent U.S. market.

The Hyundai Group, which combines Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, had the largest exhibition area at the Show, demonstrating the group’s momentum in the U.S. market. This momentum was also seen in the advertisements outside the venue and in the special exhibits near the entrance. BEVs have dominated motor shows around the world in recent years, and this Show was no exception, with world premieres including the IONIQ 9 attracting much attention.
Another major topic was the display of Tesla’s self-driving taxi with no cockpit. There was no exhibit from Waymo LLC (Waymo), the leading self-driving taxi company, but there were advertisements posted around the venue and many unmanned self-driving taxis were visible around the venue (Waymo also began its service in the Los Angeles area in November), giving the impression that a new era was upon us.
