Lincolnshire Police said the collision happened between Brant Broughton and Leadenham just after 7am.

On the day of the crash, cops released a statement warning motorists to avoid the area.

It read: “This investigation is very complex, and it is absolutely vital that our officers are able to carry out their work with the upmost care and attention, and that includes full access to the scene, which spans and large area; two people have lost their lives and they deserve our best efforts.

“Unfortunately, we have had a number of drivers today contravening the road closure notices which are in place.

“They have been issued with penalty notices.

“Road closure signs are mandatory; do not drive down a road which has a sign saying it is closed – if you do, you will not be insured.”

After emergency services were called the driver of the lorry, 68, and the driver of the van, 23, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue crews attended the scene as the road remains closed between Coddington and Leadenham.

Cops completed their enquiries the following day and the popular road remains closed until National Highways can clear the wreckage.

In a statement released at 3.33pm on January 11, cops said: “Officers have completed their enquiries at the scene and the road closures remain in place until Monday afternoon by Highways so that the debris can be cleared and work to make the road safe can be carried out.

“While the closures are no longer police closures, we ask that drivers continue to heed the closure signs and do not put themselves or others at risk by driving on roads which will not be gritted and remain very icy.

“There will be no further updates from police about the road closures.”

Cops have appealed for dash cam footage of the crash from any driver who might have been in the area and recorded the incident.

No other vehicles were involved and no one aside from the two drivers was injured in the clash.

The force said their families have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers.
