Microsoft Was the Top Video Games Publisher In December 2024, New Report Confirms – Wccftech

Microsoft was the top video games publisher in December 2024, seeing almost half a billion US dollars spent on their games during the month across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox systems.

As reported today by VGC, the news was confirmed by data firm Ampere, which highlighted how much of Microsoft’s success during the critical holiday season was thanks to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which already saw massive success during November 2024 with 38 million monthly users. The publisher’s multiplatform strategy seems to be working quite well, as 64% of consumer spending on Microsoft’s games last month was on PlayStation consoles, and the $465 million spent by users on games from the publisher made it the top publisher comfortably ahead of Electronic Arts, which generated “only” $366 million in December, mostly thanks, unsurprisingly, to EA Sports FC 25.

With Microsoft seeing so much financial success with its multiplatform strategy, Phil Spencer’s recent statements are not surprising at all. In a lengthy interview shared this week, the Xbox boss commented on the strategy, saying that keeping games from other platforms is not the path of the publisher, essentially confirming that any game published by Microsoft will eventually be released on other platforms. According to some people in the video game industry, such as Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler, Sony will eventually go multiplatform as Microsoft did for a few reasons, including a stagnating console market that hasn’t seen substantial growth in some time.
