MPO looking for public comment on transportation plan – KFYR

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – As the population grows in Bismarck and Mandan, so does the number of cars cruising the streets. It takes a plan to assess what needs to be done now, and in the future, to make your drive more efficient.

The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is in charge of that plan, which is updated every five years. The plan helps determine when projects are needed, such as the Washington Street reconstruction.

Right now the plan is in its final stages, and organizers are looking for public comments. People can look at possible projects like short-range goals of roundabouts or lane additions, mid range ones like more bike and pedestrian paths, and long-term goals such as new I-94 overpasses.

Keeping existing roads in good shape also matters.

“Maintenance is an important thing to keep within a system. If we don’t maintain the integrity of our current transportation system, new improvements won’t necessarily mean the same safety benefit or the same congestion reduction benefit,” said Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization executive director Rachel Lukaszewski.

You have until Oct. 23 to submit your comments. You can view the plan and give your feedback by clicking here.
