- MyIX has expanded DWDM capacity, boosting data speeds and efficiency
- Significant progress has been made to meet rising demand for high-speed internet
The Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) has concluded its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025, reaffirming its role in strengthening Malaysia’s internet infrastructure and supporting the nation’s digital transformation.
In a statement, MyIX said the AGM highlighted the significant strides it has made over the past year, particularly in meeting the growing demand for high-speed, reliable internet access across the country.
In 2024, MyIX recorded a 17% year-on-year increase in internet traffic, reaching an all-time high of 2.6 terabits per second (Tbps). The company said this surge reflects the increasing reliance on its peering infrastructure, driven by businesses, content providers, and consumers fuelling Malaysia’s digital economy.
“The continuous surge in internet traffic is a strong indicator of Malaysia’s rapidly expanding digital economy,” said MyIX chairman Chiew Kok Hin. “The growing dependence on stable, high-speed connectivity reflects the country’s digital transformation journey, where businesses, content providers, and consumers are more interconnected than ever. This growth is also a testament to the collective efforts of industry players, the government, and regulatory bodies in fostering a conducive digital ecosystem.”
Chiew also commended the government for its proactive policies and initiatives that have enabled businesses and the rakyat to embrace digitalisation seamlessly.
“The government’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, implementing forward-thinking policies, and fostering public-private partnerships has been instrumental in driving Malaysia’s digital economy forward,” he said. “These efforts continue to improve nationwide connectivity while creating more opportunities for businesses to scale and innovate in an increasingly competitive global landscape.”
To meet growing traffic demands, MyIX has expanded its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) capacity, improving data transmission speeds between key network nodes and ensuring greater efficiency. The exchange also continues to prioritise security, conducting regular infrastructure audits, including penetration testing, web application security assessments, and network architecture reviews.
In recognition of the continued support from its members, MyIX introduced a series of port fee reductions, effective from 1 April 2024, to further lower the cost of peering and enhance accessibility for businesses and network operators.
“By offering cost-effective connectivity solutions, MyIX is helping drive digital inclusivity and ensuring businesses of all sizes can benefit from reliable, high-speed internet exchange services,” Chiew said. “Today, MyIX is one of the most affordable exchanges in Southeast Asia while also being among the region’s most prominent in terms of traffic and robustness.”
As Malaysia advances in digitalisation and 5G deployment, MyIX remains committed to ensuring a secure, resilient, and future-ready internet infrastructure that empowers businesses and communities nationwide,” Chiew concluded.
Established in 2006 as an initiative under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, MyIX operates with the vision of ‘bridging networks, empowering communities’.
