NC transportation workers rally to restore Helene-hit communities – WCTI12.com

NC Department of Transportation crews from Craven, Lenoir and Pitt Counties have left Kinston to relieve other crews who are restoring infrastructure to communities hit by Hurricane Helene.

News 12 spoke to some workers about their mission to rebuild roads out west.

Many Eastern North Carolina crews headed out early Thursday morning to Western North Carolina delivering pipes, timber and equipment.

We are gonna try to be safe, but we are going up there to work and get these people some help.

ENC Crews are going back and forth to help with recovery efforts and many of them have a story to tell.

Just talking to a farmer that lost 75 cows, he doesn’t know where they went. Just seeing people come back homes for the first time and the emotion that they have seeing all the damages and just talking to them, and they are just grateful to still be alive.

Rhett Gerrald says that the images coming out of Western Carolina don’t cover all the damage that has been done to the area.

We asked Gerrald to describe the situation in one word.

One word… would be need.
