NDOT Announces Available Funding for Rural Public Transportation – KCSR / KBPY – Chadrad

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) announces federal and state funding is available for fiscal years 2026-2027 (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027), to support public transit projects in rural Nebraska. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 5311 Rural Public Transportation Program provides capital, planning and operating assistance to support public transportation in rural areas with populations less than 50,000 and where many residents often rely on public transit to reach their destinations. Organizations eligible to receive funds for operating a public transportation program include private nonprofit organizations, state or local governmental authorities, operators of public transportation services or intercity bus operators.

In addition to the 5311 Rural Public Transportation Program, funding is also available for the FTA 5311(f) Intercity Bus Program which provides planning and operating assistance. The FTA Section 5311 Rural Transit Program and 5311(f) Intercity Bus Program awards grants for operating assistance on a two-year grant cycle. Applications are due March 21, 2025.
