Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) gets fix for brightness bug

After several years without a proper successor, the Nest Learning Thermostat got a new-gen model this August. The device brings several improvements, as well as a futuristic yet minimalist design similar to a giant Pixel Watch. However, feedback from early users mentioned issues with the screen visibility under certain conditions. Now, Google is pushing out a fix for the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) display brightness control bug.

Many Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) users were having trouble while trying to view the screen content in low-light situations. This was due to a bug in the product’s automatic brightness adjustment system. The system should have adjusted the screen visibility to match the room’s surrounding brightness. However, it had the opposite effect, making it very difficult to see the content on the screen under such conditions.

Google already sending a fix for the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) brightness bug

You might think that the problem could be easily solved by using the manual brightness adjustment option that is available on other Nest Thermostat models. However, for unknown reasons, the latest Nest Learning Thermostat did not include such an option out of the box. Fortunately, user complaints reached Google’s ears, and a solution is already available via update. After installing it, users should notice a more precise operation of the automatic brightness adjustment system.

There is now a manual brightness control option

While the auto-brightness adjustment is surely useful, it’s not all Google added. The update also includes a manual brightness control option. It’s intriguing that the feature was missing at launch, but at least Google hasn’t taken long to fix it. The new option can be found under Device Settings > Display Brightness. The update will automatically reach your Nest Learning Thermostat without you having to do anything. If you haven’t received it yet, it’ll just be a matter of waiting a few days. “We’ll notify all users through the Message Center in the Google Home app once everyone has received the update,” claims Google.
