Verge
“If you’re clinging desperately to an older model and want a new iPhone for the least possible money, the 16E is the one to get. That’s the job of the 16E: be the path of least resistance to blue bubbles. But for a more discerning customer the answer’s not as clear-cut.”

Marques Brownlee
The new iPhone 16e costs $599. Who is it for?

CNET
“After testing the iPhone 16E for six days, I was surprised the most by how wonderfully uneventful it was to use. Along with all the standard iOS 18 functions and goodies, like iMessage and FaceTime, I used Apple Intelligence, made calls on 5G, took a bunch of share-worthy photos and videos and played video games like Resident Evil 4. I wouldn’t call the iPhone 16E a budget or cheap phone, but it does plenty to earn that $600 price, even if it does miss that $500 sweet spot other affordable phones like the Google Pixel 8A hit.”

Wired
“The best iPhone 16e feature? Battery life. Considering this is a 6.1-inch iPhone, which historically perform the lowest in battery tests, this is a welcome surprise—on one particular day when I used it for GPS navigation, music streaming, and picture snapping, it was left with around 30 percent before bed.”

MobileSyrup
“There’s one upgrade that makes the iPhone 16e better than the 16, and that’s the battery life. Apple has integrated its first cellular modem into the 16e, which is more power-efficient and a little smaller. This gives Apple’s engineers more space inside the phone to fill with battery while also drawing less power.”

Tom’s Guide
“Obviously, everything about the iPhone 16e is much improved over the iPhone SE 2022, but I don’t want to refer to this new model as a value phone because it’s not. This is why I think of the iPhone 16e as a new breed of iPhone because it takes some of the best parts about a modern iPhone, offering them at slightly lower cost. If you’re willing to settle for those missing features — namely MagSafe, Dynamic Island, and all the extra video features — the iPhone 16e is an excellent choice.”

USA Today
“If you’re still holding onto an iPhone that’s 5 years old or older or thinking about switching from Android, the iPhone 16e is the best entry point into Apple’s ecosystem in years. It offers the core features of the iPhone 16 at a more palatable price and doesn’t feel like a stripped-down version of a flagship model. It’s a ‘good enough’ phone for a decent-ish price.”

PC Mag
“The iPhone 16e runs just as well as other iPhone 16 models when it comes to apps and Apple Intelligence, and a custom Apple-made C1 modem inside gives it power efficiencies not available to other iPhones. The result is competitive 5G and voice performance in a handset with the best battery life of any iPhone with a 6.1-inch screen. The standard iPhone 16 is still the best iPhone for most people, thanks to its additional ultra-wide camera, faster 5G and Wi-Fi radios, and brighter screen, so it remains our Editors’ Choice.”

Telegraph
“The Apple iPhone 16e is a fantastic entry-point to the company’s smartphones with a lightweight design, vibrant display, serious performance and an intuitive software experience. It also excels in the battery department, while its simple camera system, despite being just a single sensor on both the front and back, delivers results that exceed some of the best smartphones available at the same price and even some that cost much more. There are, however, a couple of absent features, so if you’re after an iPhone with the very best camera for instance, then the iPhone 16e may not be the model for you.”

WSJ
“If you’re hanging onto an SE or other older device, these improvements will feel significant. Still, you might find that recent models, sold at a discount, offer more value. I immediately missed my MagSafe accessories, which don’t work with the 16e.”
