New rumor claims March 28 launch for Nintendo Switch 2

Yet another rumor has surfaced that claims to know the launch date of the Nintendo Switch 2, and at this point, it’s getting a little hard to keep track of them all.

While earlier rumors initially suspected a possible release date of Nintendo’s next console this holiday season, that never came to pass. It’s also been stated on several occasions that Nintendo wouldn’t launch the new console until sometime in 2025. It’s now very evident that this is exactly what’s going to happen. The latest rumor comes from an Italian news publication that is suggesting Nintendo’s next console will launch at the same time as some upcoming accessories.

If that sounds familiar, that’s because there has already been at least one other rumor surrounding the console’s release date based on accessory launch times. Earlier this month, Accessory maker Satisfye accidentally leaked a brief shot of the Nintendo Switch 2. The leak happened because Satisfye was teasing its upcoming Zen Grip 2 accessory, which is slated to launch in the Spring of 2025. The rumor suggests that Nintendo plans to launch the new console around the same time as these accessories.

The Switch 2 launch rumor suggests Nintendo is pushing up the timetable

While we can’t say this with absolute certainty, we’d suggest taking this rumor with a grain of salt. As most rumors expect the console to launch in late Spring. That being said, Nintendo has stated it would reveal the new console within this fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025. So there is a chance that if the company reveals the console within the next couple of months, it could launch by the end of March. That would mean Nintendo is pushing up the timetable. That isn’t impossible, but probably unlikely.

Nintendo launched the original Switch several months after revealing it to the public for the first time. And it makes more sense for it to do the same thing this time around.

Nintendo has no more big first-party games until after this fiscal year

Another thing to take into consideration is the games. Nintendo launched the original Switch with a huge first-party title. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo has confirmed already that there are no more big first-party games coming this fiscal year.

It would also likely want to launch the console alongside a big first-party game. And since the fiscal year ends on March 31, it’s reasonable to assume the launch of the Switch 2 will happen after this date. This is all speculation, of course. But it does make sense, given Nintendo’s comments.
