To the surprise of many, Nintendo has just announced a 2025 handheld, but it’s not the Switch 2, and it’s made out of LEGO. Many of you would easily guess what I’m talking about now.
Nintendo and LEGO have partnered up to launch a handheld, the original Game Boy
On its ‘Nintendo of America’ X handle, Nintendo shared the news. Nintendo is partnering up with LEGO in order to release a Game Boy made out of LEGO. Game Boy, as many of you know, is Nintendo’s legendary console.

The original Game Boy was launched way back in 1989, but we’ve seen a number of iterations since then. The two companies are partnering for that classic Game Boy, though, which is the best idea, I’d say.
LEGO’s build of the original Game Boy is coming in October 2025
The two companies did share a teaser video for the launch and announced that the device is coming in October 2025, so we’re in for quite a wait. The LEGO design of the Game Boy was not shown, though, of course.
I’ve personally owned that thing, and still have it tucked away somewhere. I fired it up like 5-6 years ago, and it still worked like a charm. Game Boy was the inspiration for a ton of other, more modern consoles.
It was followed by a number of iterations from Nintendo, such as Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. Those are all the Nintendo Switch predecessors, in a way.
The original Switch arrived in 2017, and its successor is coming this year
The Nintendo Switch was originally launched in 2017, and we’ve been waiting for its successor for a long time. The Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive in 2025. In fact, its design was leaked yesterday.
Based on that information, the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a larger display, an 8.4-inch panel. That means it will be 35% larger than the one on the original Switch, and 20% larger than the one on Switch OLED.
An audio jack will also be included, as will a Type-C USB port. We’re not sure when exactly in 2025 is the device coming, but the original was announced in March. That doesn’t have to mean anything, though, we’ll have to wait for more information from Nintendo.
