Noel Fielding 'Will Be Returning' to Work After Abandoning Now-Canceled Apple TV+ Series – CBR

Noel Fielding will be returning to work following the abrupt cancelation of his Apple TV+ series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. The historical comedy was axed by Apple last week mid-way through filming season two.

It was reported that Fielding, who plays the title character in Dick Turpin, had dropped out of the series even though three-quarters of the work had already been completed. The Sun originally claimed that Fielding “failed to come to work” for undisclosed reasons, but there is no official explanation as of yet. Producer Big Talk Studios ultimately decided to completely shut down production on Dick Turpin season two because the project couldn’t be salvaged without Fielding.

Apple TV+ Has Cancelled This Series Only Two Months After It Premiered

Sadly, the practice of squashing new shows almost immediately has become common among streaming services.

While Fielding has yet to comment on why he left The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, his spokesperson confirmed to Deadline that he will soon be returning to work. Fielding’s representative hit back at tabloid claims that the comedian would be dropping out of hosting the next season of the UK’s The Great British Bake Off – known as The Great British Baking Show in the US and other parts of the world.

Fielding’s spokesperson told the outlet that there has been “absolutely no discussion” of the star stepping back from Bake Off. “We have been in contact with Channel 4 and Love Productions throughout all the speculation and his ‘stepping down’ has never been part of that dialogue. We can confirm he will be returning to co-host the next series of Bake Off.

“There has been absolutely no discussion about Noel stepping down from Bake Off.”

Fielding will reunite with Bake Off co-host Alison Hammond – along with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith – when filming begins later this year. Fielding joined the show, alongside Sandi Toksvig, as replacements for original Bake Off co-hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins when the reality competition moved from BBC One to Channel 4 in the UK. Fielding would next be paired with Doctor Who star Matt Lucas, and later Hammond, after Toksvig announced her Bake Off departure in 2020.

Fielding is perhaps best known for being part of the British sketch group The Mighty Boosh alongside Julian Barratt. The pair had their own Boosh radio and TV shows before going on hiatus in 2009. Fielding remains a fixture of British comedy, having starred in the classic sitcom The IT Crowd and more recently voiced Stan the Executioner in Netflix’s animated series Disenchantment, from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was a Critical Hit

Silo’s Future at Apple TV+ Officially Revealed

The future of Silo on Apple TV+ gets a major update halfway through the acclaimed show’s second season.

  • The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has an 84% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics hailing its “murderer’s row of funny people” in the cast and its “whimsical and fun” tone.
  • Noel Fielding executive produced Dick Turpin as well as starred in the series.
  • Dick Turpin features some of the UK’s most notable comedians in guest roles, including Greg Davies (Taskmaster), Guz Khan (Our Flag Means Death) and Jessica Hynes (Spaced).

Fielding had an active role in developing The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin for Apple TV+ as an executive producer. The series offers a comedic twist on the mythical stories of an infamous English highwayman and horse thief. Fielding’s depiction of Dick Turpin recreates him as a mastermind of petty crimes as he aspires to become England’s greatest-ever highwayman. Turpin’s quest for glory is threatened when he runs afoul of notorious thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville) and his group, The Syndicate.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was created for Apple TV+ by Claire Downes (Nanny McPhee), Ian Jarvis (We Can Be Heroes) and Stuart Lane (The Job Lot). Fielding joined the trio to write the pilot episode and later co-wrote the second episode as well. Apple initially renewed The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin for a second season last July.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin season one is streaming on Apple TV+ now. The Great British Bake Off returns to Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix internationally later in 2025.
