Nothing Phone (3a) chip revealed, new camera system will be used

Nothing is working on its next-generation budget smartphones which will likely include the Nothing Phone (3a) series and CMF Phone 2. The Phone (3a) series will have camera upgrades and new features including the latest Snapdragon chipset and eSIM support. It seems Nothing will bring some big changes to its affordable smartphone lineup.

Nothing Phone (3a) series to feature Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset

According to Android Authority, the Nothing Phone (3a) series which includes Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus will have the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset. The publication found this information in the latest Nothing OS 3.0 build with codenames asteroids, asteroids_plus, and galaga, probably referring to upcoming Nothing phones.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a 4nm octa-core chip with one Prime core running at 2.5GHz, three performance cores running at 2.4GHz and four efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz. This will make the phones faster and able to handle many apps and tasks smoothly. Also, it will improve battery life and overall efficiency making the Phone (3a) series a good option for budget buyers.

Nothing Phone (3a) series to get major camera upgrades and eSIM support

In addition to the new chip, the Nothing Phone (3a) series will also have an upgraded camera system. The leak suggests the Phone (3a) will have a telephoto camera which will allow users to zoom in on objects from a distance without losing picture quality. The Phone (3a) Plus will have a periscope zoom camera which will provide even better zoom.

Nothing phones usually have wide and ultra-wide cameras but the telephoto camera is a big upgrade. This will allow the Phone (3a) series to take high-quality zoomed-in photos making it a more photography-centric phone.

Another feature the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus may have is eSIM support. These models will be the company’s first to have this technology. The phone may have two physical nano-SIMs or an eSIM with a physical nano-SIM for dual-SIM configurations.

As for the CMF Phone 2, not much is known yet. But it may feature a MediaTek SoC and stick to physical SIMs only.

In related news, Nothing recently posted a new video on its YouTube channel, hinting at the launch timeline for its next product. The company has confirmed that the next product will launch in April 2025. The marketing name hasn’t been announced yet but rumors suggest it could be new smartphones including the Nothing Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Plus, and CMF Phone 2.
