NVIDIA's RTX 5070 GPU has RTX 4090 performance for under $600

NVIDIA has just announced the GeForce RTX 50-series GPU family, including the RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. NVIDIA’s new 50-series GPUs are based on the company’s new Blackwell architecture, which it says will “open a new world of AI computer graphics.”

NVIDIA’s latest GPUs have been leaked for several months so their arrival at CES 2025 isn’t a complete surprise. That being said, there were plenty of unknown details about them. For instance, how much they’ll cost. Price is no longer a mystery as NVIDIA has officially announced the cost of four of its upcoming GPUs. The focus for many is likely going to be on the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. That’s understandable, given these will be NVIDIA’s most powerful GPUs.

However, a fair amount of attention should be given to NVIDIA’s RTX 5070. Why? Because NVIDIA is making such a bold claim with it, that it’s hard to ignore. According to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the RTX 5070 GPU he just announced will have the power of an RTX 4090. Sound great right? It gets better. The RTX 5070 will cost under $600. Specifically, $549.

That’s incredibly inexpensive if you look at the launch price of the RTX 4090. It was a $1,599 GPU that many could only dream of owning. Now, that sort of performance is going to be much more attainable.

The NVIDIA RTX 5070 GPU will be available after the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090

Those looking to upgrade to NVIDIA’s latest GPUs won’t have to wait too long to purchase one. Although, that really depends on which model you’re looking at. NVIDIA will kick off sales for the 50-series GPUs starting this month, but only for two of the four.

Both the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090 will be available starting on January 30. For pricing, you’re looking at $999 for the RTX 5080, and $1,999 for the RTX 5090. The $549 RTX 5070 and the $749 RTX 5070 Ti will be available starting in February.

A new design with powerful new capabilities

NVIDIA always makes bold claims with its latest GPUs, and this time is really no different. However, the GPUs in the 50-series genuinely seem to provide a huge leap compared to the shift from the 30-series to the 40-series. During the company’s keynote, Huang began his announcement for the GPUs by showing off some of their rendering capabilities. The demonstration showed real-time graphics being rendered with NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs using the new RTX Neural Materials, RTX Neural Faces, text-to-animation, and DLSS 4 features.

Huang said the new DLSS is so powerful that it “predicts the future.” Noting that it’s capable of “generating beyond frames.” Some of the biggest advancements of these new GPUs are powered by AI. Specifically, the RTX Neural Shaders, which uses AI to compress textures in games. NVIDIA says with this feature, “film-quality materials, lighting, and more” are capable within games.

NVIDIA is also using a new design with the 50-Series GPUs. The new graphics cards feature a dual fan setup built into a flow-through design instead of the fans facing the front. They also have a new 3D vapor chamber and GDDR7 memory.
