Oberlin Schools administrator receives Pupil Transportation Award – The Morning Journal

For the first time in the history of Oberlin City School District, an administrator received Pupil Transportation Award, according to a news release.

Jim Eibel, director of operations/transportation for Oberlin Schools, accepted the award Oct. 10 during the Pupil Transportation Professional Development and Awards Banquet hosted by the Educational Service Center of Lorain County at the Lodge of New Russia Township, the release said.

Oberlin Schools Superintendent David Hall said in the release that the district’s bus driving staff all agreed that Eibel was deserving of the award.

In fact, Eibel’s role extends far beyond logistics — he builds relationships, anticipates needs and steps in wherever he’s needed, Hall said.

“Whether it’s coordinating transportation or helping out during school events, his dedication fosters a supportive, connected environment that positively impacts both staff and students,” Hall said. “A couple of years ago, he even obtained his CDL in case he ever needed to drive a bus.”

Most days, Eibel is seen driving the district van that transports preschool students to and from school, but there have been other times when he has driven high school student-athletes to sporting events in the evening/weekend hours, according to the release.

“He really goes above and beyond just being the ‘director of operations/transportation,’ ” Hall said. “Within this small school district, everyone supports everyone in order to create a strong sense of community and ensure the success of each student.”

Prior to his current position, Eibel was the principal at Prospect Elementary School.

He started as director of operations/transportation in 2021.

“The school driver shortage is real and all districts in Ohio are feeling the need,” Eibel said. “I am just trying to help out and do my part to get the job done.

“All of our drivers are so professional and caring. I am extremely honored to work with such a great transportation team.”
