The PS5 Pro specs have surfaced just days before the console’s official launch, which happens on November 7. The specs have leaked before, so this isn’t the first time these details have popped up. That being said, this was prior to Sony’s official announcement of the console. It was also well before anyone had gotten their hands on a unit to verify if the leaked specs were true.
As it turns out, most of the leaked information was fairly accurate. A new report from Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter (via Eurogamer) breaks down the PS5 Pro’s specs details as part of an unboxing of the latest PlayStation console. Not all of the specs details are present, however. What is there gives way to some interesting details. These differ slightly from what the leaks were saying months back. Some are spot on.
PS5 Pro specs confirmed in the console’s included manual
While not all of the console’s specs are listed in the manual, there’s a fair bit of detail in there that could be particularly interesting to anyone considering a PS5 Pro purchase. One of the more notable takeaways is the confirmation that the PS5 Pro has 16GB of DDR6 RAM. This is in addition to 2GB of DDR5 RAM. Making for a total of 18GB of RAM. What’s key here is that the 2GB essentially matches up with previously leaked information. As early leaks said the console had additional RAM for developers to make use of.
So it would appear that the PS5 Pro’s 2GB of DDR5 RAM is potentially intended for system-level functions, while the faster RAM is used for games. This way players get to make use of the faster RAM for the console’s main purpose. Interestingly the manuals don’t mention anything about the clock speeds of the CPU and GPU. However, the manual does mention what those specific components are.
PS5 Pro manual confirms AMD Ryzen Zen2 processor
While the manual doesn’t say anything about the clock speeds, it does confirm that the console is powered by an AMD Ryzen Zen2 processor. This setup has 8 cores and 16 threads with an AMD Radeon RDNA-based graphics engine rated for 16.7 teraflops of graphics performance. This teraflops number, as Digital Foundry points out, is considerably lower than what the early leaks were saying the console would have.
This just goes to show that this particular spec may not matter so much. How many teraflops of graphics performance the PS5 Pro offers is seemingly less important than what we were led to believe earlier on. The manuals also mention a total power output of 390W. However, this isn’t necessarily what the games will require to run. It’s simply the maximum output. Sony also appears to have lightened the Pro model a bit compared to the Slim. As its weight comes down from 3.9kg to 3.1kg (8.59 lbs. to 6.83 lbs.).
