On a T-Mobile Legacy Plan? Expect a “Price Adjustment” This Year

When you take a look at your carrier, particularly if it’s one of the big three, you’ll see that they have a slate of plans. For instance, T-Mobile has Go5G and Verizon has its myPlan options. However, these weren’t always available, and one day, they will likely be usurped by a newer set of plans. At that point, Go5G, for instance, would become a legacy plan.

It’s not a crime to stick to your legacy plan, especially if the pricing is just right for you, especially compared to what you get from it. However, in the eyes of the carrier, you deserve to be persecuted. Legacy plans are frequently hit with price hikes, and T-Mobile’s CEO has just hinted at another price hike being the fate of those on legacy plans in 2025.

Your T-Mobile Legacy Plan’s Price Is Very Likely to Go Up This Year

As a consumer, you already spend money on so many other things, but even if you just look at subscriptions to digital services, the average person has enough on that front—music, home internet, work tools, video streaming, cloud storage—to make the slightest price hike a major annoyance. It’s why the last thing that most people want is to hear something that their mobile plan, a 21st-century necessity, is going up in price.

Unfortunately, for those who have pitched their tents with T-Mobile as their carrier of choice, particularly those still on the carrier’s legacy plans, a price hike seems to be in their future for 2025. For full context, this is based on comments from Mike Sievert, the CEO of T-Mobile. His exact words were, “You’re going to be hearing about us… getting back to some of the adjustments of the legacy pricing that we began last year.”

It’s hard to interpret that in any other way. In fact, it is pretty obvious that “adjustment,” in this case, isn’t what a consumer would consider to be a positive adjustment. Instead, it’ll mean another price hike. You might notice a reference to “last year” since the company’s legacy plans went through the same thing in 2024, which is part of what makes things all the more so annoying.

Last Year, Legacy Plans Increased as Much as $5 on Each Voice Line

Some of T-Mobile’s legacy plans include Magenta, Simple Choice, and ONE. These were some of the plans that found themselves impacted by the price hike last year, and if I were to guess, I’d assume that they’re likely to find themselves on the chopping block yet again this year.

Last year, these plans saw unsavory price increases anywhere between $2 per voice line to $5. Obviously, if a similar scale were to reoccur this year, it’s definitely going to leave a lot more than a few people enraged.

I have a feeling that the carrier is doing what it can to squeeze those holding onto legacy plans so tight that they have no choice but to move to newer plans. And in the event that they don’t, T-Mobile will still make more than enough profit off of them.
