The OnePlus Ace 5 launched in China recently, and based on what happened with its predcessor, we expected the OnePlus 13R to be identical. Well, the OnePlus 13R will still look basically the same, and share most of its specs, but it could offer better cameras than its twin.
The OnePlus 13R could end up offering better cameras than its Ace 5 twin
Based on what is reported, the OnePlus 13R could actually get two improved cameras compared to the Ace 5. The phone is said to utilize a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700 main camera. The OnePlus Ace 5 uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 main snapper.
The ultrawide camera is said to stay the same, an 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 camera. The third camera on the back will also get a boost, though, it seems. The OnePlus Ace 5 uses a 2-megapixel macro camera. Well, the OnePlus 13R could end up utilizing a 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN5 telephoto camera (2x optical zoom).
A 50-megapixel telephoto camera sure is a better choice than a 2-megapixel macro unit
2x optical zoom is not ideal, but anything is better than a 2-megapixel macro camera. So, we’ll take this as a win, if it ends up being the case. The information comes from Yogesh Brar, who doesn’t exactly have a spotless record when it comes to leaks. So take this information with a grain of salt.
The difference in the telephoto camera is also visible in the leaked images, though. As a user on Reddit highlighted, the difference between a 2-megapixel and a 50-megapixel camera is visible inside the camera oreo on the back. You’ll see an official OnePlus Ace 5 render below, and a leaked OnePlus 13R render.
The OnePlus 13R will arrive with a global variant of the OnePlus 13. Both of those smartphones will become official soon, on January 7. The OnePlus 13R will be inferior to the OnePlus 13 flagship, though, of course.
