OneXPlayer Sugar 1: Say Hi to a Dual-Screen Android Gaming System

There was a time when mobile gaming was being painted as a replacement to console and PC gaming. Back then, I knew it couldn’t happen, but I’ll be the first to admit that I might have underestimated the impact that mobile gaming would eventually have. There are a lot of people who game for hours a day from their Android devices.

That’s why it should be no surprise that there are dedicated Android gaming devices, such as the newly-released OneXPlayer Sugar 1. But this one isn’t even like the rest of the segment, as it brings a second screen that will completely change how you experience your mobile gaming.

The OneXPlayer Sugar 1 Is Defined by Its Two Displays, Offering Versatility

The concept of an Android gaming handheld isn’t a new one. Some people do the majority of their gaming on their smartphones, so it doesn’t hurt to have a device that gives you access to the same selection of games but comes with hardware and software features to make the experience even better.

However, with the Sugar 1, things are very different since this device comes with the flexibility of a second screen. Sure, you get the 6.01-inch primary display, but if you want things to be a little more versatile, you can use the 3.92-inch secondary screen as well. Three screen modes let you take full advantage of the two displays:

  • Large Screen Mode: Lets you play as usual on the 6-inch unit.
  • Small Screen Mode: Gives you a more compact display to use when you want to get minor tasks done quickly.
  • Dual Screen Mode: This brings unique multitasking to your gaming experience, letting you run a game on the big screen and another app on the smaller screen. For instance, you can use the small screen for social media, streaming controls, or to take a look at in-game maps.

Qualcomm has literally just announced the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip for Android gaming systems, and the Sugar 1 wasted no time in getting it.

This chip features an octa-core CPU paired with an Adreno A32 GPU. The latter supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and rendering capabilities have improved over last year.

If you’re going to be playing games online, as most will, the FastConnect 7800 modem with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 will make sure you get the lowest latency possible, even when cloud gaming.

The OneXPlayer Sugar 1 Has Some Modular Elements for Customization

What makes the Sugar 1 extra cool is that it comes with a lot of customizability in its little frame. You can angle the joystick/grip section of the handheld for the most ergonomic grip, and you’ll be able to modify your button mapping to make things as convenient as possible.

When you don’t need that smaller screen, you’ll also be able to easily fold it away out of sight. Plus, you can even take the controllers off and switch them with other options that might be better suited for the titles you’re playing. Again, this device is pretty darn versatile.
