Summary: OpenAI is currently working on a social media platform. Right now, there is an early prototype that’s focused on image generation. Not much information is known about this platform at the moment.
OpenAI has pretty much cornered the AI market with its chatbot, but that doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t want to dip its toes into other pools. The company developed its own search engine, and we’re following rumors of it eventually bringing its own browser to the market.
Well, according to a new report, it looks like OpenAI wants to further expand its grasp on the public’s attention and piss off one of the richest men in the world at the same time. It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.
OpenAI is working on its own social media platform
This bit of news came out of nowhere, but it shouldn’t surprise you. OpenAI is always up to something. The Verge reported that OpenAI is actually working on a social media platform. Of all the services that OpenAI would want to work on, a social media network is one of the most surprising.
Right now, no one has much information about the platform. We don’t know its name, launch date, or target audience. However, according to the report, this platform could resemble X in a way. It seems that it will revolve around image generation, based on the internal prototype.
So, it should come as no surprise that AI generation will play a pretty huge part in it. The only question is, how? We’ve seen an AI social media platform that allows you to create an AI-generated avatar and have it comment automatically, which is a pretty horrid idea.
As big of an AI company as OpenAI is, it’s not depraved enough to do something like that. So, we’ll have to wonder how AI will play a role in this platform. Since it’s just a prototype, we’ll need to wait to see what information comes about.
We’re sure that Mr. Musk won’t like this
Elon Musk’s feud with Sam Altman has been heating up over the months, with the former trying to force his hand over OpenAI. Musk has been trying to get OpenAI to reverse its journey to becoming a for-profit company and make its source code open-source.
So, the fact that OpenAI is working on a social media site in the vein of X might upset him. He tried to sue Meta when it came out with Threads, so we’re sure that if OpenAI launches a social media site, its team should hear from Musk’s lawyers.
