OpenAI's ChatGPT Now Supercharges Your Shopping Experience

OpenAI has launched a new update for ChatGPT’s web search capabilities, making online shopping easier for users. With the latest update released on Monday, the AI tool will now provide more comprehensive results. This poses a significant threat to Google.

OpenAI updates ChatGPT for a better shopping experience

OpenAI has officially updated ChatGPT Search, the web search tool in ChatGPT, providing users with a valuable alternative to Google when shopping online. With the tech giant’s latest update, the chatbot will now be able to offer several product recommendations when users search for a product. It will also be able to support these with product images, price details, user reviews, and purchase links.

For example, if you ask ChatGPT, ‘What’s the best espresso machine under $200 that comes close to the taste of coffee in Italy?‘, it can suggest a few espresso machine options based on your input. You’ll be able to easily view the recommended products along with their prices, user reviews, images, and purchase links.

OpenAI says that users can now ask questions in natural language and receive personalized results. The chatbot is initially capable of making recommendations in categories such as fashion, beauty, home goods, and electronics. More categories are likely to be added in the future.

This feature runs on ChatGPT’s default GPT-4o model. Additionally, free, Plus, and Pro users worldwide can benefit from it. Users can even use it without logging in.

OpenAI will not take a commission from purchases

OpenAI states that ChatGPT will independently generate shopping results, and users will not see any ads. Additionally, shopping results will be based on structured metadata from third parties. That being said, the brand will not charge a commission on purchases made through ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Search is growing in popularity, with OpenAI highlighting that the tool hosted over 1 billion web searches in the past week alone. Finally, the company plans to release a fix soon to tone down ChatGPT’s overly complimentary personality.
