The Orange County Board of County Commissioners met on Tuesday to discuss the Orange County Transportation Multimodal Plan and results from a study on the efficacy of the Orange County Detention Center.
What’s New?
- The board unanimously approved the Orange County Transportation Multimodal Plan, which consolidates recommendations from over 30 plans and ordinances to develop a method for prioritizing and implementing transportation projects.
- Projects were ordered according to a scoring system based on board and community feedback, Transportation Services Director Nish Trivedi said in his presentation.
- “It’s very helpful to be able to prioritize projects, because otherwise, we’re just sitting here going: ‘How do we do this?’” Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford said. “We know we need all of this, how do we weigh it? So having some math scores and logic with the iterations is helpful.”
- Orange County Manager Travis Myren and Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood presented the board with the results from a report on the staffing and efficacy of Orange County Detention Center.
- Matrix Consulting Group, who provides analyses for state and local governments, was selected to conduct the study, Myren said.

Aaron Baggarly, Matrix Consulting vice president, said the study’s goals were to provide a complete assessment of the staffing and operations of the detention center.
- “You moved into a new building just a few years ago, and so this was a good time to reset and identify what any operational improvements could be made,” he said.
- Some key recommendations the study made include adding an additional administrative position, increasing detainee programs and in-person visitation.

- The BOCC will meet for its next business meeting on Monday, Dec. 2nd in the Whitted Human Services Building in Hillsborough.
