Osmo Mobile 7 series is official: DJI's best gimbals for phones

DJI, the company specializing in drones, action cameras, and smartphone stabilizers, has launched a pair of new products for the mainstream public under the DJI Osmo Mobile 7 series. These are the Osmo Mobile 7 and Osmo Mobile 7P, two feature-packed gimbals for smartphones at competitive prices. Despite their similarities, the Osmo 7 caters to individuals who prioritize enhanced portability.

These are the new gimbals in the DJI Osmo Mobile 7 series

The Osmo Mobile 7P is the flagship model. It offers the company’s most powerful three-axis stabilization mechanism. It also has built-in lights with adjustable temperature, color, and brightness. On the other hand, the Osmo Mobile 7 boasts of being the lightest gimbal in its class, according to the company. It weighs just 10 ounces (300g), and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The Osmo Mobile 7 also integrates a quick one-step unfolding system, an extension rod, and a tripod.

One of the biggest highlights of the DJI Osmo Mobile 7 is the support for the “Multifunctional Module.” The latter is a special component capable of fulfilling multiple purposes. It boosts the subject tracking system from any camera or streaming app you use. It also allows you to seamlessly switch between different subjects with a single tap if you need to. This makes it much easier to regain focus on a subject if, for one reason or another, it gets lost while you are recording.

The module can also take on the role of a microphone receiver to capture high-quality audio. Plus, while in this mode, it even provides additional power to your phone as a power bank thanks to the USB-C connection.

The connection between the “Multifunctional Module” and the stabilizers is magnetic. It even enables gesture control to execute actions using your hands/fingers. Showing your palm enables/disables the smart tracking feature. A “V” gesture with your fingers will trigger or stop video recording on the phone. Meanwhile, making a “double L” gesture with your fingers will tell the module to adjust the framing of a particular subject.

The features of the Osmo Mobile 7 series are powered by ActiveTrack 7.0, DJI’s most advanced tracking technology. It makes it easy to focus on a single subject even in crowded environments. You can also have the gimbal detect multiple subjects at once thanks to it. You can access all these possibilities through the DJI Mimo app.

The gimbals include a couple of additional features for added versatility. There’s a side wheel that will let you tweak the focal length and fill light settings. Apple ecosystem users will be happy to know that they can use their Apple Watches as a remote control for key features.

The Osmo Mobile 7 series is available from DJI’s official website and authorized retailers. The Osmo Mobile 7P is priced at $149, while the Osmo Mobile 7 costs $89. Lastly, DJI is shipping the products starting today, so you won’t have to wait long to receive them.
