PNY’s New CS2150 NVMe Gen5 SSD Promises Quicker Load Times

Without the need for spinning disks that Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) carry, SSDs access and transfer data much quicker. So your PCs boot time is faster and file transfer is quicker. PNY’s SSDs are among the most popular options, and are often reliable mid-range products for storing movies, art, and more.

While they aren’t always top-of-the-line, they do bring good performance for the price. Today, they introduced the CS2150 NVMe Gen5 SSD with fast speeds up to 10,300 megabytes per second and write speeds up to 8,600 MB/s.

Expect cooler graphical performance

The PNY CS2150 SSD works with Microsoft DirectStorage, a Windows 11 feature that does wonders for game load speeds faster and graphic quality. It sends data directly to the graphics card (GPU) instead of the CPU, which speeds up the whole process.

The SSD also works together with the PNY GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB XLR8 graphics card, and is part of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series, specifically the RTX 4080 SUPER model. The graphics card is equipped with three overclocked fans, it remains cool for longer and spins faster than regular fans.

It’s useful for when you push it to perform at higher speeds and it generates more heat. It also carries TSMC’s 4N process used to create the chips in the Ada Lovelace architecture. Basically, it’s a custom version of TSMC’s 5 nm process, which they’ve optimized to meet the needs of NVIDIA’s GPUs with higher efficiency.

Meanwhile, the CS2150 SSD is about as fast as storage gets for most consumer devices right now. The 10,300 MB/s reading and 8,600 MB/s writing speeds are commendable compared to older models. The TCG Opal 2.0 security standard enables hardware encryption on the SSD where data you keep on the drive becomes encrypted, and it’s harder for unauthorized users to reach your files even if the drive is lost or stolen.

PNY CS2150 SSD promises up to 2TB

The CS2150 SSD is built to last with a 5-year limited warranty. If the drive has any manufacturing defects or stops working within that period, you’ll get a replacement or repairs from PNY. It’s also interesting that the warranty covers the Total Bytes Written limit.

So, the warranty covers the SSD for five years or until the SSD reaches its TBW limit, whichever happens first. If the SSD fails within the 5 years or before hitting the TBW, PNY will repair or replace it. But if the drive exceeds the TBW limit, the warranty likely won’t apply anymore.

As for the specifications, the SSD uses the interface PCIe Gen5 with NVMe Gen5 x4. It comes in two storage sizes: 1TB and 2TB. It has an M.2 2280 form factor, which is a small, rectangular shape commonly used in modern laptops and desktops.

The PNY CS2150 SSD will be available for purchase starting this month, December 2024. It will cost $99.99 for the one terabyte model, and $179.99 for the version with two Terabytes. You can buy it from the official PNY website or Amazon.
