REDONDO BEACH, CA — Redondo Beach Police broke up an illegal car show in the parking lot of a furniture store over the weekend.
Police were monitoring the parking lot after observing a large gathering of cars at Living Spaces at 1519 Hawthorne Boulevard at about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 27. While watching, police said they witnessed the cars performing “burnouts” and participants lighting fireworks.
Police made several traffic enforcement stops and issued citations to people participating in dangerous activity. Two vehicles were impounded, but no arrests were made.
“Due to the large number of people gathered for the event and to prevent the escalation of dangerous disturbances from the attendees, at approximately 11:00 PM, … [RBPD] ordered the car show attendees to disperse from the area,” RBPD said in a statement.
All vehicles and attendees had left within 30 minutes, police said. According to police, after everyone had dispersed, officers found graffiti that is still under investigation.
“The Redondo Beach Police Department monitors events to keep the peace and address criminal conduct,” RBPD said.
To report unlawful conduct, Redondo Beach residents can call 911 for emergencies or a dispatcher at 310-379-5411 for non-emergencies.
