SEATTLE — Black Friday shopping at the University Village Apple Store was disrupted by protesters advocating for Palestinian and Democratic Republic of Congo causes.
The group accused the company of complicity in what they described as “genocide” and child labor abuse.
“This is the biggest shopping day of the year,” said Flowers Smith, one of the protesters. “It’s the biggest day for consumers and the day they make the most money off the hands of people as young as 5-years-old in the mines. So it’s a day we can strike back and say we’re not gonna stand for this.”
The store was ultimately closed to shoppers, with a few protesters remaining inside. Police issued trespass warnings, but it is unclear if any arrests were made.
Seattle police said several demonstrators left after the trespass warning but a few remained.
