Summary: Sony has issued a price increase for the PS5 in Europe and a few other regions. These changes will impact the cost of the digital edition PS5, and price changes have already taken effect as of April 14.
The PS5 is getting a price increase in Europe and a few other regions. Sony has confirmed the price increase on its official PlayStation blog, citing various reasons for the increased cost of its current-gen game console.
That being said, there are several factors to keep in mind about these price changes, such as when they start, which models the price changes apply to, and what specific regions will see these changes. According to Sony, the biggest reasons (or perhaps the only reasons) for the price increase of the PS5 in Europe and other regions are “fluctuating exchange rates and high inflation.”
This also isn’t the first time the PS5 has gotten more expensive, let alone in some of these markets specifically. Back in 2022, Sony raised PS5 prices for several regions, including Europe, the UK, China, Japan, and a few other countries. With this new increase, Europe and the UK will once again be asked to pay just a little bit more for the console. Having said that, many of the markets that were hit with price increases last time won’t be feeling the sting this time around.
The PS5 price will increase in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand
When it comes to the specific regions that will see this price increase, it boils down to four regions. Europe, Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. Obviously there will be several countries in Europe being hit by these new prices.
Sony says that the price of the PS5 digital edition will go up in Europe to €499.99. In the UK, it’s going up to £429.99. Luckily, the price for the standard disc edition in both of those regions is going to be unchanged. So if you prefer the model with the disc drive, it’ll stay the same price.
However, the disc model is going up in price in Australia and New Zealand. The standard edition will now cost AUD $829.95 in Australia, and the digital edition will now cost AUD $749.95. For New Zealand, prices will be NZD $949.95 and NZD $859.95, respectively.
Sony says the prices on the PS5 Pro will also not change across any of these regions. So if that’s the model you’re going for, it’s not getting any more expensive than it already is. Additionally, Sony is decreasing the price of the disc drive attachment in these regions. Specifically, it’ll cost €79.99 in Europe, £69.99 in the UK, AUD $124.95 in Australia, and NZD $139.95 in New Zealand.
All price changes are now in effect
Sony made this announcement on April 13, noting that price changes would take effect on April 14. Now that it’s April 14, the price changes are live. So, if you live in any of those regions listed, know that the cost has gone up for the PS5.
