As the cruel hands of fate have taken Huawei, my favorite smartphone innovator, away from the level of innovation they used to be capable of, a void was left behind. If you’ve been paying a lot of attention, it seems Realme has put itself in that spot, whether you like it or not.
Realme has just unveiled its Realme 14 Pro series, letting us in on quite a bit about the upcoming devices. However, the company is particularly proud to talk about the design, especially the unique color-changing finish on the back panel. I definitely haven’t seen anything like this on a smartphone before.
The Realme 14 Pro Series Introduces A Cold-Sensitive Color-Changing Back Panel
Realme isn’t making the most powerful or premium flagship smartphones in the world, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The company prefers to focus on the proposition of value for most of its devices, giving you power at a much better price than the competition. However, it’s not only about bang-for-buck when it comes to Realme. It also likes to hit targets that other OEMs haven’t even fathomed.
Today, the Realme 14 Pro series has been unveiled by the brand, and it is extremely clear that Realme wants to talk about the one-of-a-kind finish that it employed on the back of these new devices. Working together with Valeur Designers, a Nordic industrial design studio, the phones in the Realme 14 Pro lineup have a back panel with a pearl-like finish.
However, that’s not the cool part (pun intended). Things really get awesome when the phone is exposed to temperatures lower than 16°C. That pearly white turns into a vibrant blue hue, and then back again when the temperatures go back up. So, whether it’s winter or the phone is taking a dip in cold water, it’s got a cool trick that almost no one will see coming. Compared to the Realme 13 Pro, they really leveled up the aesthetic.
Valeur And Realme Did A Lot To Ensure This Isn’t Your Regular Smartphone Colorway
As a regular consumer, you might have never heard of Valeur Designers, but you might have seen their work before. The company has had a partnership with premium audio brand Bang & Olufsen for nearly three decades. So, if you’ve seen some of their B&O’s artsy products, you’ve likely seen Valeur’s work.
At first, I was going to write this Pearl White colorway as nothing too special beyond the color changing, but I’ll take that back. The production takes over 30 steps and involves the infusion of organic seashell powder and a matte finish for a shell-like feel. Every back panel has a different pattern from the next. Sexy smartphone finishes aren’t new, but this might be one of my favorites.
Realme Lets Us In On Some Aspects Of The Realme 14 Pro’s Spec Sheet
It’s not all about that stunning finish though, as much as it might be the star of the show. The Realme device is going to bring a quad-curved design with a sub-8mm build. The company says it will bring a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, which will be the best of any device that the company has launched.
On the rear, the Pearl White finish might have claimed the spotlight, but we can’t forget about the cameras. It comes with a circular “Ocean Oculus” camera module with a “MagicGlow” triple-flash setup, well-suited for night portraits with accurate skin tones. These come together for a camera module that you can easily pick out from a lineup.
And despite all of that beauty, the Realme 14 Pro series is built tough. You’ll get IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings across the family, which means that you can test that color-shifting finish in a pool or a bucket of water without a worry.
