Reddit user reveals age by requesting ID on 'old school' car – Supercar Blondie

A Reddit user made a bunch of users feel pretty old after asking for advice identifying an ‘old school’ car.

‘Old school’ is a pretty loaded term to begin with, because it means something different to everyone.

To one person it could be a 1956 American classic, to another a 2003 Toyota – it really depends on how long you’ve been around.

In this case, a few people were made to feel old, leading them to accuse the original poster of ‘showing their age’.

Our story begins – as so many of them do – on Reddit, more specifically in the ‘what is this car’ sub-section.

A user going by the handle gorilla182 shared a picture in a parking lot that featured a white car with a pretty unique shape.

They wrote: “What is this old school beauty I saw this morning?”

Then, they added: “First thought mr2, but don’t think that’s right and they left before I circle back [sic]”.

They could not have imagined the response that their question got.

So, what was this mystery car?

The car – by the way – seems to be a Pontiac Fiero GT, and that seems to be one of the most commonly requested cars on this particular identification channel.

“Reset the counter,” one person responded.

“It’s always a Fiero,” said another.

So, there’s the question answered – it looks as if this car is a Pontiac Fiero GT from around 1988, and a cursory Google search gives us no reason to doubt that.

It’s much more easily identified than some other cars, like this mystery car that had everyone stumped for ages, or the mystery Porsche that was spotted at a Los Angeles airport.

However, it’s definitely not as valuable as this Mercedes that appeared online and turned out to be worth millions.

Nope, this is just a slightly obscure American car from the late 80s – nothing really that exciting at all.

The Reddit user might have just shown their age

However, some people were put out at the use of language, because nobody wanted to consider the idea that they themselves might be ‘old school’ too.

One person wrote: “No shade. How old are you OP?”

“I instantly felt ancient that someone called a Fiero GT a [sic] awesome retro car,” commented another.

Well, just remember this – even if you are getting on and are considered ‘old school’ it’s still better than the alternative.

If only we could all live to see ourselves become as ‘retro’ as the 1988 Pontiac Fiero in this picture, right?
