SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) — The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is holding two in-person workshops Tuesday and Wednesday for public input regarding the design of the county’s new zero emission Rail Trail project.
They are asking the public to attend an in-person meeting or give their input online.
The in-person meetings will take place on November 12 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the Henry J. Mello Center on 250 E Beach St. in Watsonville, and again November 13 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the Live Oak Community Center at 1740 17th Ave. in Santa Cruz.
The RTC hopes that these meetings will address certain topics like public input if the new train will serve the Westside of Santa Cruz, State Park Drive, La Selva Beach and Ohlone Parkway. Additionally, they are questioning if bike lockers should be included at rail stops.
They are also asking the public if they’d like their neighborhood to include a quiet zone to minimize train horns at crossings.
More topics include which stops the public would like to see included along the line, as well as which amenities should be prioritized at stops.
For people wanting to weigh-in on the discussion but unable to make either meeting, the RTC is offering an ongoing virtual open house, available here. It is offered to people 24-hours per day.
The RTC is hoping to receive all public feedback on the Milestone 3 portion of the project by December 20.
