Samsung announces its latest AI-powered mid-range phones

We’ve already had a Samsung phone launch this year, and there’s another one happening in a couple of months. Well, nestled in between, we have the days leading up to MWC. During the hype, Samsung announced its latest mid-range phones with the Galaxy A56 5G leading the pack.

That’s right, folks. MWC (Mobile World Congress) is about to kick off! This is the biggest smartphone tech event of the year, so you should expect some super exciting announcements over the next couple of days. Keep tuned to Android Headlines, as we’re going to be covering the event.

Samsung just announced the Galaxy A56 5G and other mid-range phones

It’s important to note that this announcement is not a part of MWC. Some companies love to announce their products just before events. Either way, it doesn’t make the announcement less exciting. Along with its powerful, yet boring, flagship phones, Samsung also has a line of equally boring mid-rangers. The Galaxy A series phones are some of the more powerful Samsung mid-rangers, only topped by the FE phones.

This year, Samsung has announced three Galaxy A phones, the Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A26 5G. As you can tell, they’ll bring a varying level of performance depending on their model.

Galaxy A26 5G

Starting off with the runt of the litter, the Galaxy A26 5G will be the least capable of the three phones. Still, you can expect a nice experience overall. Like the other phones in the line, the Galaxy A26 5G will come with a suite of AI tools which the company is calling Awesome Intelligence (not Galaxy AI). Samsung advertised features like Circle To Search, Object Eraser, and AI filters along with other smart features. All of the phones in the A series will come with these features.

Also, the Galaxy A26 5G, along with the other models, will come with One UI 7 running on top of Android 15 out of the box. So, you’ll be able to enjoy many of the newest features that Samsung has to offer. Speaking of software, Samsung stated that these phones come with six years of major software upgrades and security updates. However, looking at the text, it said “up to” six years. It’s just a bit odd that Samsung used that wording. Hopefully, there aren’t any changes down the road.

Moving onto the specs, the Galaxy A26 has a FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a smoother 120Hz refresh rate. So, despite the fact that it’s not the most premium of the line, this phone will have a pretty great display.

When it comes to the performance, you’re looking at a decent 6GB of RAM. That’s pretty average for a mid-range phone, though a bit on the low side. As for storage, the Galaxy A26 5G comes with 128GB of storage. Keeping the lights on, there’s a large 5,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy S26 5G has a 50MP main camera with an F1.8 aperture. That’s accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. Up front, there’s a 13MP selfie camera.

Other features include IP67 water and dust resistance and Samsung Knox security.

Galaxy A36 5G

Now, for the middle child. The Galaxy A36 5G has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with the same FHD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. What’s notable about this display is that it can reach an impressive 1,200 nits of peak brightness. That’s not exactly the brightest, but it’s still more than enough to see it clearly in the sun.

Powering this phone, we have Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. So, you shouldn’t expect this phone to be a speed demon, but it’ll still be a decent performer. It will power you through your day well enough. Backing up the processor, there’s 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Galaxy A36 5G shares the 5,000mAh battery capacity, but this phone comes with 45W Super Fast Charge. This will charge the phone up in a decent amount of time, though it’s much slower than what other companies offer.

Moving onto the camera, this phone also has a 50MP main camera and 8MP ultrawide camera. However, the macro camera is a little sharper at 5MP. Oddly, the selfie camera is 12MP.

Lastly, we have the big brother. The Galaxy A56 5G shares some specs with the Galaxy A36 5G. Both phones have the same 6.7-inch display with the same resolution, frame rate and 1,200-nit peak brightness. They also have the same 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging. They also share the same camera specs.

However, the similarities end with the processor. The Galaxy A56 5G uses the Samsung Exynos 1580 SoC. It’s backed up by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Samsung advertised an interesting feature called Best Face. When taking a photo, we sometimes aren’t making the best face when the photographer presses the shutter button. However, Best Face (when the Motion Photo feature is enabled) will use the frames captured before the photo and select the moment you were making the best face and paste it into the photo. This feature is exclusive to the Galaxy A56 5G.

Price and availability

The Galaxy A26 5G starts at $299.99, and it will only come in the Awesome Black color on March 28th. As for the Galaxy A36 5G, this phone will start at $399.99, and it will come in Awesome Black, Awesome Lavender, and Awesome Lime on March 26th. Lastly, the Galaxy A56 5G starts at $499.99, and it will be out later this year. We don’t know what colors it will come in.
