Well, it looks like people aren’t as in love with Samsung’s foldable phones as they once were. As powerful, refined, and packed with AI as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are, these phones didn’t meet expectations in terms of sales. Because of this, Samsung could cut production for its 2025 foldable phones.
If you recall, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 earlier this year, and they brought very little that made them better than the company’s previous foldable phones. The company pretty much recycled the design from its older phones, and that was most evident with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
This was a horrible choice on Samsung’s part, as competition from other companies has been heating up. For example, the HONOR Magic V3 is much thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 while packing a larger battery. Also, the Vivo X Fold3 was an amazing phone and a proper competitor to Samsung’s best. With the increased competition and Samsung’s lack of innovation, its 2024’s foldable phones were bound to fail.
Now, Samsung could cut the production for its 2025 foldable phones
Just a couple of months ago, it seemed that Samsung was looking to expand its foldable phone ambitions. We were hearing rumors about a Galaxy Z Flip FE and another Galaxy Special edition along with the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 7. However, according to a new report, it seems that Samsung is having some second thoughts.
Samsung had a production run of about 8.2 million for its current foldable phones. Well, it looks like the company will target a production run that’s about 40% lower for next year. It could aim for only 5 million units next year. That equates to 2 million Galaxy Z Fold 7 units and 3 million Galaxy Flip 7 units.
That’s a pretty big cut in production, but it seems necessary. Tech prices are going up, and Samsung struggled to keep the prices for its foldable phones down. They even jumped up $100 with its 2024 foldables. So, people are less likely to buy the company’s foldable phones next year.
