Samsung could release One UI 8.0 after One UI 7.0 due to delays

Galaxy phone fans have been waiting for the One UI 7.0 update for a long time. Samsung has been slow to push out the Android 15-based update even to its flagship phones from last year. Now, a report claims that the One UI 7 delay will lead Samsung to skip intermediate updates to jump straight to One UI 8.0.

Reliable tipster Ice Universe recently claimed that One UI 8.0 will be the update after One UI 7.0. It was previously rumored that the company might release One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1 sometime in 2025. However, the convoluted development situation of One UI 7 has reportedly forced a change of plans.

One UI 7.0 delay may have led Samsung to cancel all intermediate updates

This isn’t the first time we’ve read about potentially canceled intermediate updates due to the One UI 7 delay. A report from a couple of weeks ago teased the possibility. It added that Samsung could replace One UI 7.1 with One UI 7.0.1. This OTA would have had fewer changes and would have been released with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. However, the latest report clarifies that there won’t be any intermediate update at all. So, Samsung’s next foldable phones could come with One UI 7.0 or One UI 8.0 out of the box.

Multiple factors could have forced Samsung to make the decision. The main one could be its own problems during the development of One UI 7.0. There is also the possibility that Google will release Android 16 at an earlier date than usual. So, the company could be in a “development hell” at some point, as it would have to work on the One UI 7.0 rollout, the development of the One UI 7.1/7.0.1, and the Android 16-based One UI 8.0 updates at the same time.

Meanwhile, 2024 Galaxy flagships owners are still waiting for the OTA. The Galaxy S24 series received One UI 7 beta 5 in February and is expected to get at least 6 betas before the stable rollout. A recent report revealed that the company might soon open the beta program for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

Currently, only the recently launched Galaxy S25 lineup, affordable and mid-range phones, run One UI 7. The list includes the Galaxy M06 5G, Galaxy M16, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A56.
