Before Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S25 series of flagship phones at its Unpacked launch event, there were rumours of the firm adding Qi2 wireless charging this year, with a chip expected to deliver up to 50W of wireless fast-charging tech.
While this could have just applied to devices coming later in 2025, it does include the Galaxy S25 phones. However, it’s not all good news because there are two big catches here.
Unlike wireless charging in previous Galaxy phones or many rivals, Qi2 uses magnets to work in its Magnetic Power Profile form much like Apple’s MagSafe technology. However, the S25 range doesn’t have any built into the design.
Instead, you’ll have to buy a specific case in order to add Qi2 wireless charging to your shiny new S25. It’s a similar situation to the new ecosystem on the OnePlus 13 which is compatible with MagSafe accessories but only with a case.

Even then, the only thing you’re benefitting from is the magnets to attach and align compatible chargers. The charging speed isn’t any faster than the Galaxy S24 at just 15W.
This is a disappointing result, and it means that if you’re keen on faster, not just more convenient, wireless charging, you’ll have to wait for future Samsung handsets.
When one does arrive with the new S2MIW06 chip, this will be able to support those much more impressive 50W speeds.
