Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition with 200MP Camera

If you missed Samsung’s mysterious invitation last week, don’t worry. All signs were pointing to the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, which was rumored to be revealed today, October 21st.

Samsung dropped hints with a cryptic video, sparking excitement for what could be a slimmer and more refined version of their popular foldable phone. The company has now officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in Korea, set to launch on October 25th.

Intricate patterns, powerful camera, and slimmer build

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition on their Korean Newsroom website. The brand is set to release the phone in the country on October 25th. This model is the thinnest and lightest in the Z Fold series, and more powerful with a 200-megapixel camera. The main differences between this version and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are in size, design, camera, and display.

We are proud to present this new product in Korea as a gesture of gratitude to domestic consumers who are leading the foldable market. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition provides a slim and light foldable experience, and is a product with a sophisticated design with elaborate patterns and deep colors.

Sung-Taek Lim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea.

The Special Edition is 10.6mm thick and weighs 236g, making it 1.5mm thinner and 3g lighter than the Z Fold 6, which is 12.1mm thick and weighs 239g. It also features a 200MP wide-angle camera, while the Z Fold 6 has a 50MP wide-angle camera, making it the better phone in capturing sharper and more detailed photos.

Samsung has made the display bigger, increasing the main screen to 8-inches, compared to the 7.6-inch display on the Z Fold 6. The Special Edition even comes with improved memory options, offering 16GB of RAM, while the Z Fold 6 has 12GB of RAM. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 still powers, and it will support the growing Galaxy AI.

Aesthetically, the design is more modern and Samsung has gone with a striped pattern and used only one color option, Black Shadow. The Z Fold 6 has a more traditional design fans are familiar with and offers multiple color options.

There’s also a noticeable change in the camera island, where it’s more protruding and thicker than the Z Fold 6. The hinge is more discreet when the phone is fully expanded, unlike the previous model where it was still visible on the outside and you could see the Samsung logo.

To make shopping easier, Samsung is setting up pop-up stores at major department stores across Korea for two weeks, starting on October 25. These temporary stores will give you a chance to try out and buy new products in person or get a hands-on experience with the devices before deciding to buy them.
