Samsung has revealed a handful of new monitors ahead of CES this year including the new Odyssey OLED G8, freshening up its suite of gaming monitors for those looking to improve their setup. In addition to the new Odyssey OLED G8, Samsung is also announcing the Odyssey OLED G6, Smart Monitor M9, and a new model of the ViewFinity S8 that comes in a larger size.
It’s also showcasing the Odyssey 3D monitor that was initially revealed back in August at Gamescom. This is the same version of the monitor that the company announced last Summer, so why highlight it again? It seems that Samsung is finally ready to bring the monitor to market. Although the monitor was supposed to be available in late 2024, Samsung has yet to begin selling it. It now looks like the monitor is finally going to be available later this year.
While glasses-free 3D tech is intriguing for the monitor space, Samsung’s newly revealed Odyssey OLED G6 and Odyssey OLED G8 are a little more exciting. Mainly because Samsung is claiming they’re industry firsts.
The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 is the industry’s first 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor
Samsung is no stranger to being an industry leader and for this year’s CES it’s introducing another industry-first. The Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor, which Samsung is calling the first OLED Gaming monitor to come in a 27-inch size with 4K resolution. The monitor also features 165 ppi (pixels per inch), and in pairing with the 4K resolution on that size of an OLED panel, Samsung is promising “unparalleled smoothness” for gamers and game creators.
It also comes with a 240Hz refresh rate which is pretty darn smooth. If you value smoothness and speed though, the new Odyssey OLED G6 is the monitor to look out for. It features another industry-first in that it’s an OLED gaming monitor with a 500Hz refresh rate. This is also a 27-inch monitor but instead of 4K, the resolution is QHD. You give up some of the resolution but you gain the refresh rate in the process. And if you play games competitively at a high level, then you might want this.
Both monitors come with a response time of 0.03ms, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and NVIDIA G-Sync. Samsung hasn’t announced the pricing or availability details of either monitor yet.
Samsung brings on-device AI to PC monitors
For the non-gamers, Samsung has two new monitors coming that are poised to excite with smart new features. Starting with the Smart Monitor M9, the first monitor to come with on-device AI. The Smart Monitor M9 actually has some gaming features built-in too. Specifically, it can use AI to analyze the type of game being played to provide the best possible visual settings to optimize the play experience.
It also uses AI for 4K upscaling. It comes with a 32-inch OLED panel as well, along with Samsung’s Easy Setup Stand for simple and convenient placement. There’s also the new ViewFinity S8. This new version has a 37-inch monitor which Samsung says is “34% larger than the previous model.” This monitor also features the Easy Setup Stand, and it has a built-in KVM switch. For those who value productivity, the KVM switch might be a game changer. Because it allows for multitasking across several devices using a single mouse and keyboard.
Additionally, Samsung says multiple devices can be connected and charged at the same time with a single 90W USB-C cable. Much like the gaming monitors, Samsung hasn’t confirmed the pricing or availability details.
