The Samsung Galaxy S21 series probably had my favorite designs among Samsung’s more recent devices. Not only were they unique, but they actually looked good. That was the best part. However, from that point on, Samsung changed things and became very complacent.
Samsung’s current design language is nice to look at. However, the OEM seems to feel too safe with it and it has lasted too long. If you hoped that 2025 would bring a change, it won’t. The Galaxy M16 will be one of the first Samsung devices next year and its design is still very closely like what we know (though different from its predecessor).
Here’s An Early Look At The Samsung Galaxy M16; Makes One Weak Design Change
Understandably, not everyone wants to put down ridiculous amounts of money to get a flagship Samsung Galaxy device. For those people, the company has several midrange and budget options to choose from. If you’re not very phone-savvy though, you’ll have a hard time telling a lot of these phones apart, regardless of whether they cost $200 or $1,000. The culprit is the design language that most of Samsung’s portfolio shares.
The Samsung Galaxy M16 is going to be one of the first Samsung releases in 2025. If it will be anything like past years, the device will build on the spec sheet of the Galaxy A16, though with a larger battery. It’s going to look a bit different than the A16 though.
When it comes to its design, Android Headlines has been able to provide us with an early look at the smartphone. The front side will have a noticeable chin bezel and a teardrop notch. The frame will be completely flat. The rear will have a vertically oriented triple-camera setup and an isolated flash just beside them. However, instead of isolated lenses, they’ll all be connected by a single black plastic piece, regardless of your colorway.
Samsung’s Designs Are Getting A Bit Boring
I love Samsung’s phones. However, the company gets very complacent when it comes to several aspects of its smartphone experience and that drives me crazy. My first Samsung smartphone was the Note 10+ (which launched in 2019), and six years later, the company is yet to surpass its 45W charging. See what I mean? The company’s designs are another aspect like that.
Ever since Samsung jumped into the three cameras which are vertically stacked, it’s acted as if it’s taboo to approach any other design. I’m not saying they should go as far as a giant circular camera module, but maybe something a bit more distinct than slapping a window around the three cameras. The Note 10 already did that.
The Galaxy M16 Is Built For A Budget And The Specs Reflect That
The Samsung Galaxy M16 is still a way off from launch, but as things always go, we have some insight into some of its specs.
It’s going to come with the mid-range Dimensity 6300, which is the same chip that the A16 has. It will also have at least one variant with 8GB of RAM, but I’m certain that’ll be a higher-end configuration. One disappointing thing is that it will ship with Android 14, which is outdated, especially as Android 16 will be here in H1 2025.
