Samsung's Odyssey G9 monitor seemingly goes wallet-conscious

Summary: Samsung has launched three new next-gen Odyssey gaming monitors, and it’s now possible to reserve your pre-order through Samsung’s official website. The new lineup includes a new version of the Odyssey G9, as well as the Odyssey 3D and the Odyssey OLED G8. Samsung boasts features like 4K resolution and high refresh rates, along with low response times for an unparalleled gaming experience.

Samsung today has launched its next-gen lineup of Odyssey gaming monitors, including the all-new model of the Odyssey G9, which Samsung says brings ultrawide gaming to more people by simplifying the approach without sacrificing performance. In addition to the all-new model of the Odyssey G9, Samsung is also launching a new model of the Odyssey G8, as well as the new Odyssey 3D for glasses-free 3D gaming.

Samsung initially announced the Odyssey 3D last year, but it’s only just been made available for pre-order reservations. Consumers can also now reserve pre-orders for the other two Odyssey gaming monitors. While this isn’t the actual pre-order, meaning you won’t be putting down any money just yet, reserving one of the monitors will save you $50 once the pre-orders actually go live. So, if you’re planning on upgrading to one of these, you might as well make the reservation and save a little money.

The next-gen Odyssey G9 could be one of the best monitors from Samsung in a while

Samsung offers a wide range of gaming monitors in its Odyssey lineup and that includes several models of the Odyssey G9. While the majority of the Odyssey G9 monitors start pretty expensive, they usually end up coming down in price eventually, even if only for a brief sale. However, Samsung’s latest Odyssey G9, the G91F model, is already sounding like it could be one of the company’s best monitors for gaming to date.

At least for a larger number of gamers. The new Odyssey G9 (G91F) offers many of the features of older models, but it should come with a lower price point. While Samsung hasn’t announced an official price tag just yet, it seems likely that the company will charge less for this model. It has a 144Hz refresh rate compared to the 240Hz on other versions. It also has a 1ms response time, though this is on par with most versions, save for the Odyssey OLED G9, which lowered that to 0.03ms.

That lower refresh rate, however, suggests that it could come to market for a cost under what Samsung has typically launched the older versions for. That would explain Samsung’s statement about bringing ultrawide gaming to more people with a simplified approach. More people would be able to afford it if the price were lower. It’s also worth noting that more people probably have a gaming PC that’s capable of maxing out a 144Hz refresh rate with a screen this size. Hence it likely appeals to a wider audience.

Samsung is launching two smaller options for gamers

All that said, 49 inches is a lot more monitor than some people want. For those looking at something smaller, Samsung’s new Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey 3D both come in 27-inch sizes. The OLED G8 also comes in a 32-inch model. Additionally, it has 4K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate.

Samsung is also launching a new ViewFinity S8 monitor

For the non-gamer, or those who simply don’t play many games, there’s Samsung’s new ViewFinity S8. Samsung says this is its largest 16:9 4K monitor to date, coming in with a screen size of 37 inches. It is worth noting that Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G7 43-inch monitor (which launched in 2023) is also 4K UHD and has a 16:9 aspect ratio. So perhaps Samsung is referring to non-gaming monitors here.

As for the size, it’s 34% larger than the last ViewFinity S8, and it features a 90W USB-C connection along with the other standard ports like HDMI and DisplayPort. Samsung doesn’t mention if the new ViewFinity S8 is available to reserve like the three new gaming monitors.
