Samsung's VR headset listed on Geekbench with key specs

A possible VR/XR headset from Samsung has been in the talks for a while now. The device would be another result of the company’s close relationship with Google. Now, a new Geekbench listing for the alleged Samsung’s VR headset suggests that its launch is very close.

A report from mid-July claimed that the South Korean giant will launch a dev version of a competitor to the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro in October. The most recent developments appear to be moving in that direction. According to 91mobiles, there’s a new entry for Samsung’s VR headset on Geekbench. The report also includes some key hardware specs.

Samsung’s VR headset specs leaked on Geekbench

The source claims that a SoC with a six-core CPU (base clock speed of 2.36 GHz) will power the upcoming product. These numbers seem to match those of the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. Qualcomm launched the latter earlier this year, although a report suggested that Samsung might skip it to wait for the next generation. However, it seems that this will not be the case. The chipset features 2x high-performance cores, 6x energy-efficient cores, and an Adreno 740 GPU. For reference, the Adreno 740 is the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

On Geekbench, the alleged Samsung VR headset has the model number SM-I130. It also has 16 GB of RAM and runs Android 14. There are rumors that Google is working on a special Android version for VR/XR products. It’s unclear if the company plans to launch it alongside Samsung in the near future. The two companies have already jointly announced the merger of Wear OS and Tizen, so there are similar precedents.

The Galaxy S25 series may inherit design lines from the VR headset

A recent leak claims that the Galaxy S25 series will take design cues from Samsung’s upcoming VR headset. The company could want to establish a cohesive and recognizable design language across its product lines. However, it’s not yet clear what the two products will look like. The closest we have are early renders that show a “boxier” Galaxy S25 Ultra.
