Second round of troubles for Toledo auto shop – WTVG

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo auto shop was the victim of vandalism for the second time this year as a group of people damaged more cars at the shop.

Three more cars were either rummaged or damaged last weekend after nine cars were smashed over the summer.

13 Action News was at GT Auto Repair on North Reynolds in Toledo back in August. Mike Qublawe, the owner, said he caught a group of people smashing cars on his security footage. The Toledo Police Department (TPD) said those suspects weren’t identified.

On Sunday evening, Qublawe said another group was caught on camera kicking and throwing rocks at cars, even going through ones that were unlocked.

“I talked to the neighbors and the neighbor told me they’ve been having issues with their car, someone opening them and going through them,” Qublawe said.

Qublawe said it doesn’t appear the group stole anything from the cars.

The owner added this latest incident could be the final straw.

“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think I can keep taking more hits like that,” Qublawe said. “I’m thinking about closing. Call it a day, and move on.”

Qublawe said that the damage done in by this recent group is over $1,000 and now, he has to tell his customers their car has been further damaged.

“We took a big loss the first time,” Qublawe said. “I cannot keep taking money off of my kids’ plates to feed them, to fix these cars.”

A police report was filed and TPD is aware of the situation. Qublawe said he hoped this time, authorities could catch the suspects and lead them down a better path.
