Sergey Brin is back at Google, working on AI

We know Sundar Pichai as the man in charge at Google today, but there were several people who led the company back in the day. One of those people was Sergey Brin, one of the co-founders of the company. He left Google some time back, but according to a recent interview, that changed. Sergey Brin is now back at Google, and he’s working on AI.

Brin co-founded Google back in 1998 with Larry Page and remained with the company (including its parent company Alphabet) until 2019. In December of that year, he stepped down but remained a board member.

Sergey Brin has returned to Google

Brin was invited to talk at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles. During the 20-minute segment, he spoke about AI and what sorts of impacts it could have on humanity, his early years at Google, and his return to the company among other topics.

As stated, even though he left Google back in December, he still kept some ties to the company while he went on to pursue other things. We’re not sure when he returned to the company because he wasn’t really vocal about it.

However, he’s back, and he’s working on AI. He says that he’s working on AI pretty much every day at the company, and that should come as no surprise. Google has been AI-focused for years, and that exploded with the AI boom.

As with most other people working with AI, he’s excited about the technology and its effects on humanity. He also talked about the potential risks if the technology isn’t developed safely. He mentioned that it’s a “big, fast-moving field,” and this is also true.

One thing he mentioned during the interview was that he felt that Google was falling behind in the AI race. Right now, the company is struggling to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, so it makes sense that Brin believes that. Then again, most other AI companies are also falling behind OpenAI. Companies like Amazon barely have any AI tools on the market. So, With Sergey Brin back at Google, who knows if there’s a chance that the company could take the lead?

Google recently released Gemini Live to free customers, so that could help bring more people to the Gemini platform. You can access that feature from the Gemini app.
